What I've seen is a big increase in hits ever since I've changed the layout to Blogger's dynamic view. Because the dynamic view allows the reader to see, essentially, all the blog posts I've made and I get hits for older posts.
I also get more hits when I post more than once a week.
It looks like my blog numbers have died off a bit in November and December and I'm not sure why. I'll have to investigate that.
I've also had limited success from my cross promotional activities. (When I post to twitter or facebook.)
But most of my hits will come from my e-mail signature, which I've set up automatically. And also from people googling my name.
Interesting. I also started getting a lot more blog hits when posting more frequently, although I sometimes wonder if the extra effort is worth it. (But am amazed at how many people look at older posts.) I've also had so little crossover I've pretty much stopped even mentioning the blog on Facebook. Will think seriously about possibility of "dynamic" view.
ReplyDeleteTell me how you find it, if you decide to change formats, Melissa.
DeleteI rarely look at my stats - they seem to raise more questions than they answer.
ReplyDeleteI've got access to Google Analytics, and I'm sure that there's plenty of stuff you can find out. But it's too time consuming for me. I just stick to the basics.
DeleteThat is very interesting, I have become very irregular at posting and my numbers have been cut by about 75% from where they were in 2012. I figure what I put into is what I'm going to get out of it.
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure, Rusty
DeleteI get tons of hits off of Facebook. It's my top referral. I think lots of people don't actually follow my blog, they just click through when they see a post on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteYou know my numbers have gone down since I stopped posting to facebook in November and December, so that could be a factor.
DeleteI might take a look at dynamic view Deborah, although as I am not very techie, I might not understand it!
ReplyDeleteIt's very easy, Wendy. Go to template in your control panel, and you'll see a range of layouts. Dynamic is the second group under Simple. Then just click and away you go!
DeleteFacebook is the Devil's play thing - well, for some at least. If you're actively putting yourself out there for commercial reasons, or to further a project, etc, then yes, these results are worthy of note, but to the casual blogger, I'm not so sure? Plus there is a certain amount of overlap from searches via the web where accidental views occur, and what about bot activity?
ReplyDeleteToday I 'acquired' a new follower. I always check a new follower's link/blog. This time I find I've got a Spanish porn site attached to my followers list. Not the kind of thing I really want, but how did this site track down my blog? Randomness of the web *sigh*.
As far as I know, all my hits could be bot activity. Perhaps you're a bot, Mark. That eye doesn't look human for starters.
DeleteTis merely a window to the soul - as to the appearance of the window? What matter does that make?
DeleteHave a lovely Christmas, Debs - hope you and the family have a wonderful, safe and happy time of it :)
