Facebook: Adjusting your News Feed

Did you know that you can alter your news feed by assigning different levels of  'friendship' to your friends?

I did this yesterday and it really changes the nature of the posts you see. I love it.

Click on a Friends profile.
Click on the friends button, where there's a tick
Assign them as 'Best Friends' for more updates
Assign them as 'Acquaintances' for less updates
Assign them as 'Restricted' for even less updates

This is a really nifty feature. There's also a feature when you can create your own lists. That could be very useful if you've got lots and lots of Facebook friends.

I'm sorry if you already know it. I'm never sure if to post these tips. Maybe everyone already knows it.

Perhaps you all know something that I don't. What else can you do to refine your news feed?

  1. Good features for sifting and sorting. I guess FB is a necessary evil -- until the next big social networking thing.

    1. I've grown to like it. I was on for years without checking in, but I've picked up a few useful snippets here and there.

  2. I did not know that. I only log onto facebook on occasions when I'm forced to, but I've wondered why I see so much stuff from some people, but nothing from others... especially when one person tells me they posted something I should see, then I go hunting for it and I have to work hard to find whatever it was they posted.

    Too much work really.

    1. Well this is quite a nifty feature. I can't help agreeing with you that there's probably lots of nifty features out there and I just haven't got the will to find them out.

  3. That is useful - one of these days I shall understand Facebook, I really shall...

    1. I'm sure there's a lot one could learn, and it's probably quite easy. But, meh, who has the motivation for that.

  4. I know that if I progress to something longer than womag stories, I shall have to start using FB. If and when that happens any useful tips will be gratefully received. Happy New Year Deborah.

  5. I've only really made use of the "best friends" (or it was called Close Friends when I last made use of it) feature, but mostly all my updates are for everyone.

    1. It's handy to for me to refine the things in my feed. But after Crystal's comment, I'm not sure what I've done!

  6. I'd seen that feature, and I toyed with it, but it started sending me notifications for all my closest friends little actions, and then when I didn't respond about them, it automatically axed them from my notifications period. Facebook frustrates me.

    1. Oh that sounds bad! I got loads of notifications at first, and now they've dropped off. I hope they haven't fallen out of my feed. Thanks for the tip, Crystal.

  7. I love lists! I have most notifications off, because I have such a limited attention span, I can't focus if I get nudged. But I like being able to prioritise which group of people I want to read about first (then I check the normal feed to see what I might have missed :)
