'Surrendered Human' is up at Nature's Futures. This story was playing around with the 'surrendered wife' philosophy. What's all that about, eh? Is there a surrendered husband thing? I must tell Chris.
Never heard of the "surrounded wife", but sounds a bit like Heinlein's philosophy in "For Us, The Living": you do your thing and I'll do mine, with no strings attached.
Creepy story! I love the tension between free will and biological determinism.
I haven't read anything by or about Doyle except that Wikipedia article you linked to, but I did buy an ancient copy of The Adventure of Being a Wife by Ruth Stafford Peale, Norman "The Power of Positive Thinking" Vincent Peale's wife. I guess that was sort of a precursor to the whole surrendered wife thing? Yikes, and yuck.
Another winner, Deborah; big fan of the worlds you create in these short Nature pieces. How long does it usually take between contract and publication? Still waiting for mine to appear...

ReplyDeleteNicely done on the story.
S, a surrendered wife has to let her husband take charge of the relationship, and the finance and any big life decisions. It's a real thing.

p.s. your blue template is loading every time I visit your blog now, so I guess the tweaks are working!
