My story, Marma Shells,  of aliens, Africa and fractals appears in the current issue of On the Premises.

The current contest is open and the premise is:

 MYTHS AND LEGENDS

"In some way, some kind of myth or legend needs to be important to the story. The judges won’t care whether the myth or legend is true. “Family legends,” like the time Cousin So-and-So did something memorable, are fine as long as the story is fiction. (In other words, as long as you’re making it up!)"

Prize money is $40-$180. Here are the contest rules (it's free to enter). I recommend this contest very highly. The editors were wonderful to work with. Here's some extra help for those of you considerting it, an interview wtih Tarl Rodger Kudrick at Six Question For . . . .

Also: reporting the sale of a poem to the Future Lovecraft anthology. I adore the Cthulho mythos.

  2. I've never written for a contest. I can never work well with the topic we're supposed to write about. I know it's recommended to enter some, but still. Maybe I'll try this one!

  3. Congrats! "It’s best to let Marma do what she wants" -- awesome characterization, and the cigar was a great touch.

  4. J.L.: One of the reasons I live On the Premises is that it takes all genres. One of these days, you should try it.

Madeline: Hmm, I know what you mean with prompts. But once you start writing, you realise that they're easier than you think.

  9. Cheers, Simon and Cate. I hope you'll consider enterring. It's a great competition. And knowing your work I'm sure you've both got a good shot.

I'll probally enter again this time, as they read blind, so I won't be scared of overloading them.

Hey, D.U, yep, double the blogs, double the fun.
