Story Sale to Penumbra: Isaac Asimov Tribute Issue

I'm pleased to announce that my flash fiction, 'Electric Hatsuyume' will be appearing in Penumbra in the April edition, a homage to Isaac Asimov. I grew up reading Asimov, so this is a real honour for me.

This story was first published in Kazka Press' At Year's End anthology. It's a story set in a future Japan. Traditionally Hatsuyume, the first dream of the New Year, is a harbinger of the year to come.

And my main character is a robot. So what do robots dream of?

(No, Not electronic sheep, this isn't a homage to Phlip K. Dick. But boy, I would love an anthology of Philip K. Dick inspired stories. Why is no one doing that?)

Robots dream of freedom.

Penumbra has a new theme for each issue. They're always have such interesting calls. You can check them out here.

  1. Yay! Also, yes, why is no one doing a PKD anthology. Want to propose one and edit it? I can think of a couple of small presses that might help us out.

    1. I'm no editor, Elizabeth. But you should totally do it. So that I can sub to it! Make it accept reprints and I already have a story.

    2. I'm wondering about legalities, but there is definitely a massive PKD following out there, especially among my beloved fringe / conspiracy communities.

    3. I'll ask my writer's group to see if anyone knows about the legalities, Elizabeth.

      Think away, my friend

  2. Congrats on the sale! I think there should be more Asimov related calls for stories myself. I'm glad you got one in there.

  3. Nicely done, Debs -- I need to sub to them more often. The next call is for superheroes, last I checked. I've read a lot of Asimov and Dick -- not as poetic as Bradbury, but they got the job done, telling solid SF tales.

    1. I'm a big fan really. I have loads of old SF anthologies that I read over and over again.

  4. Man, I loved those Asimov robot stories as a boy, so that's going to be a wonderful edition of Penumbra. Congrats for getting in there. Must check out those upcoming themes...

    1. Thanks Simon. And the good thing is that they have a longish submission window for each issue. And they take reprints. You might even have something that's a good fit for one of the calls.
