A Littlest Pet Shop toy, named by my daughter, who became the eponymous alien in one of my stories. My space western story, 'Chit Win' has been published as the last story from Daily Science Fiction this year. Funny where you get your inspiration from, isn't it?
'Chit Win' hit subscribers' mailboxes today and should be available for everyone to read on the DSF website in about a week.
If you fancy a weekday dose of science fiction and fantasy stories delivered to you for free, why not consider subscribing?
A Happy New Year to y'all.
Just read it and enjoyed it, Deborah. I like the origin of the veole's name. Some of our best stuff comes from real life, don't it?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting a short story published. That is awesome news.
ReplyDeleteYay! Congratulations :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be reading it in a weeks time, and I'll look forward to meeting Chit Win then.
Congratulations! It was an awesome story. I subscribe to Daily Science Fiction. I didn't know it was you and I rated it high! ;) Happy New Year!
ReplyDelete@Chriistine, thanks so much! How nice of you to say.
ReplyDelete@lydia, hope you like it.
@michael, it's a good end to the year.
@milo, only trouble is that now my daughter wants her cut.
Hey! Just read the story and thoroughly enjoyed it. DSF has so few spots for longer stories. Placing one with them is quite a feather in your cap!
ReplyDeleteHey Deborah! I saw you were the author of the DSF story that hit my inbox today, and I wanted to stop by and congratulate you! So, congrats! You've got a great story here and have had great success with Write1Sub1 this year. Here's looking forward to more in 2012!
ReplyDeleteHi Deborah ... just read Chit Win.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I read most of it trying to stifle a sense of foreboding, that this was going to be another 'Boy's Own Adventure', a la Heinlein's 'Juvenile Series', while hoping that the ending might make up for it. It did.
I enjoyed those books when I was younger. They were my first forays into SF and opened up the stars for me. But so much 'misogynists in space' pulp has been written over the years that I did wonder where you were going with your story.
It would be interesting to read about what happened next on this world, and how your characters evolved.
Congratulations on the short story!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think I'll go subscribe . . .
Happy New Year. :)
Congrats on the publication, I love space westerns! :D
ReplyDeleteGood stuff, Debs! :)
ReplyDeleteJust read 'Chit Win' and thought it was great! I think the idea of exploring that world a little more that widdershins mentioned is an excellent one.
ReplyDeleteLove the story, love where the inspiration came from! Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your publication. Read the story and enjoyed it...very nice ending. I'm happy for the mother, and the women having, who do have some special abilities.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the story. I'm always making up crazy stuff with my kids so I totally understand this brand of inspiration. Very cool! Oh, and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteInspiration does indeed come from strange places. Congratulations on the publication - and happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. What a fun inspiration for your writing Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteMadeleine. Thanks. And a HPN to you too. (nb I'm lazy)
ReplyDelete@Patsy and CherylAnne, now I have an answer when people ask, 'Where do you get your ideas?'
ReplyDelete@Widdershins and Michael, Thanks for the suggestion of exploring my world further. I take that as a compliment. It would be fun to see more of Chit Win. And from a practical point of view, short stories are so time consuming it would make sense to utilise the world I've created again.
ReplyDeleteI've read it now.
ReplyDeleteGreat story. Made even better by having already seen the real Chit Win :)
She doesn't look much like a fighter, does she?
Thanks, Lydia. And Chit Win's no fighter, she's a talker!
