I've decided to create a psuedonym to distinguish between my horror/dark fantasy, and my science fiction/nice fantasy.
What fun. I'm going to be writing as Kelda Crich for the dark stuff. There's a new blog, cunningly titled Kelda Crich.
We'll see what happens. I'm hoping that this will spur me on to re-focus on horror/dark fantasy, and make it easier for any potential fans to find my work. It could all end in tears.
Oooh! I like!
ReplyDeleteI was actually going to do that, too. I would use my name for the bulk of my stories, but my sci-fi trysts would go under the name JB Stone, a play on Joe Bop Rock, a nickname given to me by my older brother when I was little.
I'm not sure how useful they are anymore, but it's not something that could hurt, right?
Hey, Joe. I know a few authors who are testing the waters in indie publishing using pseudonyms. That way if it If it all goes pear-shaped it won't tarnish their reputations.
ReplyDeleteBut, as writers we worry about these things a lot. A good story will sell.
So why am I doing it? I guess becuase I want to push myself into building up my horror. I'd like to engage more with the horror community and this might be a way to remind myself to get on with it.
Great point. I suppose that's why you see so many genre fiction writers, once they've gained some level of fame, owning up to stories that were written under pseudonyms.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to change my pseudonym to Stephen King.
I'll try Steve N. King.
ReplyDeleteTissues on standby. Once upon a time I created a Pseudonym for my children's books (Phoenix Rendell - very fancy) but never used it.
ReplyDeleteKinda like how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. Very Star Warsian of you.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of that. I haven't decided what pen name I'd use yet. Have a few flinging around my brain though :O)
ReplyDeleteI like it, and think it's a very clever idea. Like the name, too :)
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I also use two pen names, but simply because I work with two publishers.
ReplyDeleteHey, Madeleine, D.U. and J.L -- pen names are fun. I can see myself spiralling into all sorts of different personas -- oh no.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of Kelda Darth for my dark stuff, Michael.
Welcome to the dark side, Debs. Can't wait until Ms. Crich gets her publishing mojo going.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I need a pen name...
ReplyDeleteLove yours :)
Cool. I'll have to check it out. I'm trying my hand with YA horror with the story I'm working on. Hopefully this comment will post and my blogger problems are fixed. Thanks for the advice.
ReplyDeleteShelley, it's working. That blogger glitch is so annoying, isn't it? (everyone -- if you have trouble posting comments don't check the stay signed in box).
ReplyDeleteElizabeth and Lynda -- Hi. I am finding the pen name motivating. Got to get Kelda's sub rate up. New stories are needed.
Great name! I love pseudonyms.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, your white fish is an idiot. I keep trying to feed it. But even when I put the food right in front of Whitey the red ones get it first.
Ooh. Nice pen name!
ReplyDelete(and Lydia's right--that white fish isn't so good at getting the foods)
